"My practice explores the similarities between Druidry and Mariology through painting and sculpture. Creating work is a meditative and devotional process through which I hope to gain understanding and peace. My interest in iconography and spiritual art has been inspired by my travels to Hungary and my upbringing in the Druid community. I am heavily inspired by Byzantine and Eastern European art, as well as early medieval church paintings and mosaics."
Rosalie Thorley, 2024
Thorley focuses on creating a modern approach to iconography through depictions of angels and saints in a flat, stylised manner. She hopes to create a new outlook on spirituality via syncretism and the acceptance of all religions and philosophies. Her practice revolves around Mary and other female saints that are underrepresented in character. She aspires to continue the tradition of iconography and to heighten representation of feminine figures in art. Her practice relies upon historical context and research, delving into styles that often seem overlooked or forgotten by the contemporary art world.
